Shore power and port infrastructure
Shoreside charging infrastructure is a vital component of marine electrification and is needed to support numerous electric vessel technologies. KPFF will present best practices, lessons learned, and key considerations for shoreside charging garnered from experience with ferry electrification projects across the country. Key areas of discussion will include utility engagement (processes, recommendations, and input needed); technology selection (potential cost and operational tradeoffs, charge rates, emergence of MCS and other charging standards, operational considerations of automated vs manual plug in, need for shoreside batteries) and project planning practices to coordinate vessel and shoreside infrastructure delivery.
