The use of battery power systems in the marine industry has grown significantly. These systems are primarily aimed at reducing fuel consumption or fully electrifying vessels. This presentation discusses the design and challenges associated with lithium-ion batteries. Additionally, the trend of customizing battery power systems in containerized forms is explored. The requirements for using containerized lithium-ion batteries on vessels, as specified by classification societies such as the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), are briefly discussed.
