The New Zealand city of Auckland has embarked on an ambitious decarbonization program for its commuter fast ferry fleet, with several hundred million dollars invested to date in the rollout of electric vessels and charging infrastructure. EV Maritime is responsible for the first two of these vessels, expected to enter service in late 2025. These carbon-fiber, waterjet-powered fully electric ferries are designed to carry up to 200 passengers at speeds up to 25kts on journeys of up to an hour. This session will present early data from sea trials, exploring service planning opportunities that arise from vessel capabilities.
